Cowboy Up

I finally found a good gift for Steve's 50th birthday and had to wait to have it shipped to me. When he was five years old, all he really wanted for Christmas was a pair of Roy Rogers gloves. Yep, he got them. The unfortunate thing about the gloves: his mom saw a mouse going up the curtains and grabbed the first thing she could find to smash the mouse. Now, don't get ahead of me! Never in a million years would I try to grab a mouse going up a curtain, but that's what she did and yes, it was with Steve's precious Roy Rogers gloves. Isn't that sad? Well thanks to Ebay, I was able to find a pair from the late '50s-early '60s that were still attached to their orginal tag and never worn. Score!
Who's Roy Rogers? He's the original television singing cowboy, along with his cowgirl wife Dale Evans, his horse Trigger, her horse Buttermilk, and their dog Bullet. I don't remember ever watching it, but Steve does. While trying to locate the gloves on Ebay, various Roy Rogers items popped up in the search. In addition to the gloves, I also found a vintage Roy Rogers dress up outfit for a little boy. It is a cute western shirt and pants with chaps attached. They are from the early 60s and probably made some little cowpoke very happy. Last, but not least, I found a lunch box complete with unbroken thermos. Competition was rough for all these items and I actually won the lunch box in the last couple of minutes. Whew! By the way, I find Ebay to be sort of addictive.

I couldn't find a decent card. I had bought one, but my sister-in-law bought the same card. Great minds think alike. Anyway, I saw this cowboy postcard and thought it was a perfect card for my wannabe cowboy/mountain man/redneck husband. Happy trails to you, until we meet again. Don't forget your riding gloves.

Rick saw all Steve's treasures and was jealous. He is a major Roy Rogers fan too. Boy I do feel old enough to be your mother when you say you don't remember watching them Roy and Dale on television. Steve should go their museum sometime. We've been there but I can't remember now where it was. Enjoyed the shopping trip the other day.
