THE RETURN OF FRANKENDOGGIE!

Yesterday while visiting Minnie at Strathe Veterinary, the vet told me I could probably take Minnie home that evening. Yay! Oh, NO! I was really nervous about how to pick her up without hurting her ribs, stitches, etc. Dr. Baker showed me how to pick her up and believe me, it is awkward. You have to start with her pelvis and gently place your other hand on her chest. Too much pressure on her chest and it hurts her ribs. Eek. I got her home around 4:30PM and she stayed awake until 1:30AM. She couldn't settle down. I tried making her a bed complete with heating pad underneath, locking her in her crate and just letting her lay on the carpet. Nothing worked. I lined her crate with more soft blankets and took the top and door off. I also cranked up the heat in the house to warm her bald body. (She can't wear a sweater yet because of an open puncture wound on her right shoulder.) At last, success! She slept until 2:20AM, went outside to potty and slept some more. Meanwhile, I was roasting! Anyone who knows me is aware of the fact that I am very hot natured. It was a long night, but Minnie was content. Big thanks to the fine folks at Animal Emergency Clinic and Strathe Veterinary for taking care of my high maintenance girl. She probably is more surgical material that actual dog now, she's had so many medical issues. I have more photos of the little Frankendoggie below. Remember, don't look if stitches make you squeamish!

Here's the little Frankendoggie sitting up in her crate this morning. This is a good photo because her fuzzy little head is hiding her poor bald body.

Licking the peanut butter off her face. I had to hide her medicine (four different pills) in peanut butter after she licked the cheese off the pills and spit them out. Smart dog.
Here's a sad little photo of her outside. This is her really bad side. She has two sets of stitches and an open puncture wound on her shoulder and a half moon-shaped set of stitches below the other stitches that didn't show up in the pic. You have to help her get up because it puts too much pressure on her ribs. Pitiful, huh?
I'm glad I figured out how to get her comfortable and cozy.

Hey, I want some attention - I never do anything wrong! Opie was glad to see Minnie. He sniffed at her and then left her alone. I think she was glad to see him also.
I may be tired and it may be hard to take care of her right now, but I love my little Frankendoggie and am glad she's home and on the long road to recovery.

I'll leave you with one more photo of Minnie taken B.D.M. (Before Dog Mauling)Thanks, Ashlee, for the song idea. It's "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" by Elton John.

Well bless her heart!! Boy it looks so painful! And what a good mommy you are turning the heat up! She's a lucky dog to have a family that loves her so!

Oh, Minnie, the little Frankenetta. I still can't get the images out of my head from Sunday...I go to sleep and have nightmares about it. I am just so, so glad that she survived that horrible attack. You should also add X-tina Aguilera's Fighter, because that's Minnie's song.

So glad you have your little one back home. I bet it's a lot like taking care of an infant when they're sick. You know they need something, but they can't tell you what it is. I agree, she's lucky to have a family like yours that loves her so much!
