Loyal Friend

I've been told that I don't give Opie proper blog attention, so here's an Opie/Woobie (he goes by both names) post. Here he is, out on the great white tundra. Unless he's moving, it's hard to see him outside. He blends in with the colors of the dead grass/snow, ice mixture. Because the light is so much better outside, you can tell what color his fur is. The photo on my side bar was taken upstairs, and the light up there is an amber color, so instead of his true color, which is more of a whitish, buff color, he comes across as being a creamy, yellow color.
Some of Opie's favorite things include shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled on his dry dog food, eating Preston's dry dog food when he comes over, chewing on socks-especially the boy's, Ashlee when she doesn't bring "Big Yellow" to the house, the Brookstone nap pillow on the couch (so comfortable), ground beef, looking out the front window and barking, lots of barking.

There he is - walking the perimeter of the yard - keeping the territory free of squirrels and cats. You will notice the crack in the fence - leftovers from the last ice storm. Just another thing we need to replace. A giant limb fell on the fence and warped it just enough to cause this gap. Not big enough for either dog to get through, so no worries for now.

So there he is. My great old dog that we adopted from Animal Rescue Foundation so long ago. He was the only male and was the largest of four. We liked him so much, three days later we adopted the runt of the litter, hence the name Minnie. I've never regretted the decision. If you're in the market for a pet, do your research, find a reputable rescue organization (stay away from pet stores that sell cats and dogs-PUPPY MILLS-don't support these stores at all-go to Southern Agriculture, PetSmart, PetCo for your pet supplies), know that dogs require lots love and attention, that they are a lot of work, and sometimes expensive, but, oh, so worth it. Lecture time over.

Opie's name: My sister's idea. Steve loves The Andy Griffith Show, so my sister thought if we named him after somebody on the show, Steve couldn't refuse. I guess Minnie should have been "Aunt Bea" or "Clara" or maybe even "Helen." Before we renamed them, their names were "Cubbie" and "Thumbelina."

Oh, Woobie. Do you remember when Tybo used to get so mad when we first started calling Opie "Woobie?" I love Woobie. It makes me sad because I don't think of him as being that old.

You should find Ope and Minnie's puppy pictures, scan them, and post them. You could do a post promoting getting puppies from rescues instead of buying dogs from puppy mills.

Bwah hah hah! Woobie. That's funny.

Good job advocating for Southern Ag, Petsmart, and Petco. They're just about the only pet supply stores that adopt out dogs, rather than selling puppy-mill peddled pups.

Oh, and Roman's shelter name was Macaroni. How ridiculous is that? He had a sister in the shelter. Know what her name was? Yep, you guessed it - Cheese. Stupid names.

Roman was a cute cute puppy. We got him when he was about 4 or 5 months old. He was completely blonde and white. He didn't get his black markings didn't show up until after he was about 2. Strange. I'll have to find some pics of him and post them on my blog.

i didn't realize they were from the same litter of pups. How old are they? You may have stated that some where but I missed it. He looks camouflaged in the snow.
