New Zoo Revue

In the never ending saga that is my birthday, when the girls asked what I wanted to do, I decided we needed to go to the zoo. I haven't been in a while and all three of them hadn't been in ages. Perfect day for animal watching. New Zoo Revue was a television show in the early 70s. I know this will shock you, but Marilyn actually REMEMBERED this show! We actually remembered most of the theme song. Scary. Mary had never heard of it. Here's Henrietta Hippo, Freddie the Frog and Charlie the Owl. I don't remember who/what that little orange thing is. Me monkeying around. Don't leave any comments about it being a chimpanzee, not a monkey. I know, I was just trying to inject a little humor-very little.I was trying to look all mean like the two guys on the bench. Marilyn just thought I looked a little constipated. Oh, Marilyn.
Sloth mama and baby. You can see the baby's little nose and one eye. So cute all snuggled up to its mom.
Poison dart frog The jaguar slinking around his enclosure.
You always see at least one group at the zoo with a toddler totin' a soda and/or sweet tea filled bottle. Come on, people. This is just wrong on so many levels. If you can walk, you don't need a bottle. Yuck.Black-breasted leaf turtle baby in the reptile nursery. He's just a little guy even though he was born 08/06."In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight...." The lioness gave birth recently to two male cubs via c-section. You can see where they shaved her abdomen. The cubs are supposed to be on exhibit at the end of the month.

Notice we are all color-coordinated. Little turtle about the size of a quarter just catchin' a few rays.

Big Aldabra tortoise catching some rays.

Interesting animal. It's the elephant caretaker cleaning the enclosure.Look at that great face. Maybe the reason I like elephants so very much is because they have big heads and crinkle their eyes when they smile just like me!

Sadly, my favorite wild animal, the polar bear, passed away last week from kidney disease. Hope the zoo will be able to purchase/borrow a polar bear from another zoo soon. It's just not the same without them.

After the zoo, I got to choose a lunch spot. Following the animal theme of the day, I thought Red Robin would be a good choice.

Wow, that Rick can sure wrap a present! Love the chimp paper. Marilyn did put the bow on the package. What teamwork.I didn't mind the singing until they said "someone is getting old." What? How can you be old when you're holding a pink balloon and getting ready to dive into a hot fudge sundae? Hmph!
Thanks to the girls for the great day. The presents were wonderful, but the time spent goofing off at the zoo was awesome! I may be getting old, but I always feel like a kid when I'm around you three. Great friends, super time, fun memories.

What a fun day. By the way, I was was crowned Henryetta Hippo for the day. And yes I do remember that show, in fact it was still in reruns not so long ago. I always liked Henryetta, she carried her weight well and made the most of her assets, so I carried her name proudly. I really enjoy our play days, uh, whose birthday is next? Huh, Huh, Huh?
