Well, if you're on the bereavement committee (sounds fun, right?) at Friendship Baptist-Owasso, OK, you know that having the privilege of setting up, cooking, serving, cleaning up for a funeral luncheon is actually fun. Marilyn K. is queen of our kitchen. She makes the calls, decides on a menu (hopefully, it involves her meatloaf), and organizes the worker bees who are more than willing to follow her orders, er, suggestions.
I love to cook, so being able to provide food for the lunches is a blessing. I am the "funeral potato" girl. This means I usually am asked to bring a hash brown casserole or four. I am the grim reaper of potatoes! Everyone likes them, so why not? They are ridiculously easy to make and they are comfort food.
The other worker bees are really fun to be around and we operate like a well oiled machine. Loretta, Susie, Janice, Beverly, Mary, Jane, and I are the usual kitchen workers; we have many other women who pitch in often. Many others are called to bring food. Big shout out to the good cooks in our church. By the way, if you are called and asked to provide food, do it with a happy attitude. You never know when you might be on the receiving end of our services. Oh, another plug, if you want to be on the list to provide food, let Marilyn know. If you have something you like to make, give her a note or something. I'm sure she would be happy to have extra people on her list.
Isn't it great to belong to a church that shows its love for people in so many ways? If you're not participating in any committees, try one on for size! You never know what blessings are in store for you. Get involved-have fun-be blessed-be a blessing.
Isn't it cool that God lets you serve Him by doing something you already enjoy? I get to cook and I also get to be with 4-6 year olds every Sunday. God is way too good to me! Find your serving spot!

What a great plug for serving our God!! I know that most people don't even know how much work goes into planning meals for a grieving family, or who does it, but what a huge blessing it is to that family!! I agree, if you are not involved in anything at church, find a place to serve, no better way to be blessed by God!
