O-STATE WALKAROUND
Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable. Tom LandryFootball may be incredible, but the OSU Walkaround is unbelievable. I was not looking forward to selling food for Tyler's fraternity (Beta Theta Pi) Friday night, but Ashlee was nice enough to go with me and help. I'm glad I went because we had a great time. I had no idea what to expect, but man, those Cowboys love a party! It was like a giant carnival and all the fraternities team up with a sorority and make these cool displays in front of their houses (see Ashlee's blog for pics of displays). My favorite had to be one that had a snowglobe and a gigantic yearbook and butterflies and what looked like an old black and white photo of the real Pistol Pete. A giant screen with the letters "O, S, U" covered it up and rolled away and the yearbook pages flipped. Amazing! The color composition was flawless and it was executed the best. I have no idea who actually won. The fraternity Tyler is pledging doesn't do a display, but opts to hire a band to play for free and collects donations from the crowd for the Stillwater domestic violence shelter. Here's my favorite daughter and me on the fraternity lawn.
My sister, Vickie and me. She went to OSU for two years, got married and graduated the following year from TU, but is a true blue (orange?) Cowboy at heart.
Here we are in front of the FIJI house. I love the 80's! See the Nintendo controller? This fraternity is next door to the Beta house. I can't imagine the hours it took to poke all that tissue paper into place.
My brother-in-law, Eric (second from left) getting ready to grill some burgers and corn with some other Beta dads.
Ashlee and my nephew, Blake's cute girlfriend, Emily. She's an OU sophomore, so she and Ashlee had to stick together in a sea of orange. What do you think of Ashlee's new haircut? I love it!
My wonderful nephew, Blake and Emily in front of one of our tents where we sold grilled corn on the cob, turkey legs, hamburgers and cinnamon rolls. I hope we made a lot of money for the house and for their charity. Blake is a sophomore at OSU. He's a member of the frat Tyler is pledging.
Tyler finally got a break so we were in line buying him a burger from the Backyard Burger stand. I'm not kidding when I say it's like a giant carnival. You could get almost any kind of food you wanted. The pledges have to work so Tyler was scheduled for three different things. He sold tee shirts, helped with the stage for the band and then had yard clean-up. Yuck! Isn't he so, so cute? I love it when he has a scruffy face and his hair is finally growing out.
Before he began his last shift, I had Tyler, Blake and Emily walk way out to my Durango and retrieve some of Tyler's stuff he needed for school, including a desk chair. They had closed a lot of the streets down for the walkaround, so I couldn't drive them all the way back, just part of the way. Emily tells Blake and Tyler that they can just push her back to the house and she would hold some of Tyler's stuff. So here they are right in the middle of the road. Big question: If Tyler does this for his cousin's girlfriend, what in the world will he do for his girlfriend? That remains to be seen.
This probably is not funny to most people, but Ashlee and I were dying laughing to see them walking away into the night. Blake and Tyler never even questioned the fact that Emily was literally along for the ride! Woo! You have to love a girl who knows what she wants. It was a good way to end a fun night.
