Philbrook Phun (Don't you hate it when people misspell words on purpose?)

Ashlee, Marilyn, Macey, and I had a great day at Philbrook today, but boy, was it hot out in the garden! Macey had never been to Philbrook and was surprised that it wasn't boring. Wish I would have taken photos of the fabulous lunch we had. Yummy! BLT sandwiches and the "T" was a fried green tomato! It also came with sweet potato fries. Oh, the deliciousness of it all! Marilyn had a salad duo (this is only funny if you know the dessert duo story) and Macey had chicken fingers. We all split a piece of Italian Cream Cake and Chocolate Overload Cake. Both are terrific. And I had unsweetened raspberry tea and loved it. Fruit teas are usually too sweet. A pleasant surprise.

Philbrook has an Egyptian exhibit until September 12th and it's fascinating. One of the things we learned about the Egyptians was they would paint pictures of their enemies on the bottom of their sarcophagus so they could stomp on their enemies in the afterlife. Talk about holding a grudge. Saw lots of art and and am better for it. Art is good for the soul. Certainly helps to have an art major tagging along to explain the various works of art. Can't take too many photos inside, but the grounds are gorgeous.

Taking photos on such a sunny day is difficult, especially when you only want to stop in the shade. This is from the gazebo (which in Italian is a tempietto) looking back on part of the museum, the original Italianate mansion Waite Phillips built in the 1920s.

Of course, we had to visit the gift shop. I bought a couple of books for Eli and me to read and Macey got an awesome sand art kit. I highly recommend Philbrook. It's easy to get around and small enough to see everything in a few hours. The admission is only $7.50 and free for those 18 and younger. Students also get a discount and some college students receive free admission. Check out Philbrook online for hours and also LaVilla Restaurant reservations. Good times, but go when it's cooler. You will enjoy the 23 acres of gardens and outdoor sculptures.
